The Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) is a dynamic leader within Enrollment Management and across the CU Boulder campus. The AVC is responsible for providing leadership to the Office of Financial Aid, the Office of Scholarship Services, and the Office of the Bursar. Further, this position is a leader in ensuring compliance, influencing policy, and promoting student success as it relates to Student Financial Services and its reporting offices. This position works collaboratively within the University community to provide leadership in operational planning and strategic enrollment planning for comprehensive and integrated services that support student success and achieve the University's goals.
Responsibility for ensuring the financial well-being of students attending CU Boulder and ensuring financial transparency for prospective students is a vital part of this role. While simultaneously ensuring compliance and budgetary impact, this position centers on strategically leveraging financial support and advising to support long-term student access, enrollment, retention, and success. This includes developing a student-centered approach to financial health, looking across the financial units to create a comprehensive support system for students. This position is a critical part of the Enrollment Management Leadership team and influencing strategy across campus.
The Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student Financial Services will possess a strong record of achievement that includes innovative practices, fostering student success, has a positive impact on student retention, and has the ability to assist in the development, implementation, and execution of a CU Boulder multi-year strategic enrollment plan. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • The Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) of Student Financial Services is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and assessment for Bursar, Financial Aid, and Scholarship Offices at CU Boulder. The Office of the Bursar (Bursar), Office of Financial Aid (Director), and Office of Scholarship Services (Director) report directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor. Enhance a coordinated strategy for admissions, financial aid and scholarships, tuition payments, student billing and debt collection that is highly focused on student success and retention. Additionally, the AVC will lead, in coordination with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management, in fostering development opportunities for enrollment management staff members in each of the offices. Develop specific plans and strategies around inclusive excellence, team building, and staff retention. Lead, develop, and implement successful financial strategies that have a positive impact on recruitment, student success, retention, and graduation. Foster strong student and customer service oriented offices that promote a quality and well-rounded experience for students, families, and the public.
  • Strategic Planning for University Enrollment Goals: Actively lead and participate in the Universitys strategic enrollment planning and management processes, assisting in the development of policies that will ensure access to the University and eliminate barriers for students and staff. Work with the Enrollment Management Leadership team in the development of a complex recruitment and admission strategy to attract, recruit, admit, and enroll exceptionally dedicated and diverse domestic and international undergraduate and graduate students. Manage and evaluate new sustainable programs and initiatives designed to ensure effective enrollment of undergraduate and graduate students on the CU- Boulder campus. Work directly with the Director of Financial Aid and Director of Scholarship Services to confirm the overall accuracy, efficiency, timely delivery, and reporting of all financial aid and scholarship funds, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university regulations. Lead, participate, and support the development of financial strategies that enhance access, recruitment, retention, and graduation. Ensure that the annual external financial aid audit information is provided by the Director of Financial Aid in a timely manner and any issues are fully resolved. Work collaboratively with the University Bursar to enhance and improve the billing and collection of tuition and student debt payment process. Encourage the development of innovative approaches in the Office of the Bursar that focus on billing, payment, debt payments, and the impact these functions have on the retention and graduation of students. Partner campus-wide on a variety of initiatives aimed at increasing student persistence and graduation amongst the continuing student population. Work closely with the Universitys state and federal government relations offices to refine and communicate the campus position on federal and state policies related to financial aid, and student payment, billing, and debt legislation.
  • Assist the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and lead in the development, implementation, and coordination of a variety of new initiatives related to Student Financial Services. Help create a culture of inclusive excellence and continuous learning through thoughtful planning, shared governance, innovative standard processes, and the promotion of knowledge development and succession planning. Ensure the broad goals and overall organizational structure for the Office of Scholarship Services, the Office of Financial Aid, and the Office of the Bursar to meet strategic campus enrollment goals. Review annual budgets and expenditures to ensure appropriate university policies are followed, and work with the Directors in each office to allocate appropriate funding to achieve operational and strategic goals and objectives. Ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion remain a top priority for Student Financial Services and its offices.
  • Works directly with the Office of Data Analytics and serves on various committees related to making data-informed decisions throughout the enrollment pipeline (e.g., recruitment, financial aid, billing and payment, enrollment, retention, graduation). Assess enrollment, admissions, financial aid, billing and payment strategies by contributing information, data analysis and analytics and recommendations that demonstrate recruitment, financial aid, billing and payment and enrollment objectives are aligned with University objectives.
  • Internal and External Alliance Building: Provide university leadership with financial expertise to ensure that enrollment targets are met, and that academic quality and diversity of the student body continues to improve. Cultivate a strong sense of teamwork, maintain an environment of mentoring and support, and encourage interaction and collaboration within (and between) individual offices within the Enrollment Management division and with partners across campus. Enhance the working relationships with Colleges, Schools, Programs, deans, faculty, students, parents, and the public. Interact positively with a wide range of internal and external constituents.
  • Stays abreast of current literature, ongoing trends, demographic changes, laws and policies that impact a diverse student body. Ensures staff have a professional development plan that incorporates and encourages standard methodologies. Participates in local, regional, and national associations, organizations and presentations. Attends conferences and professional institutes to stay relevant and build a professional network that enhances the potential for innovation at CU Boulder. Participate in research relevant to enrollment management.
  • Ensure that the University is in full compliance with all NCAA and Big 12 rules and regulations that pertain to the financial support of student-athletes.

What We Can Offer

  • The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $185,000 per year.
  • Additional Compensation Details:
    • Signing Bonus offered within departmental guidelines.

What We Require

  • A Masters degree from an accredited 4-year institution of higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • 6+ years of progressively responsible job related experience including supervisory/leadership experience and team-oriented management with demonstrated ability to build consensus among diverse constituencies at an institution of higher education with demonstrated knowledge of policies and procedures related to recruitment, financial aid, student billing and payment, and enrollment management, including demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience in the areas of marketing, technology solutions in the enrollment management offices, strategic enrollment management techniques, and budget management. Strong long-range planning and data analysis skills.
